Air Traffic Controller

Introduction

Monitoring and managing aircraft and runways along with the management of traffic in the air is the job of the Air Traffic Controller. By providing vital information to the pilots via radio about the location, runway they monitor the altitude and speed of the aircraft. They work in the back end with a responsibility to avoid any air traffic mishappenings or aircraft collisions for these may lead to major lives and property. These responsibilities are given only to the people with vast knowledge in the technology sector with a main objective of safety and smooth flow of air traffic which can be achieved through close monitoring of landing and takeoff of the aircraft, flight's arrival, and departure and many more. They are selected by examination tests conducted by the Airport Authority of India. The examination involves voice, medical and written tests. Being an Air Traffic Controller you can work as Town Controller, Approach Controller, Area Controller, etc. All these departments mentioned have to coordinate with each other to ensure safety as well as the smooth functioning of aircraft and the airport.

Work Roles

  • They must have the skill of multitasking to coordinate and communicate with different departments in that field for enduring safety and smooth arrival and departure of the aircraft.

  • They should have the ability to control and have knowledge of radar and technical equipment so they can guide the aircraft in the air.

  • Maintaining contact with the pilot throughout and providing him with vital information to avoid any accidents in the air as well as during the whole journey.

  • Responsibilities such as alerting the airport response staff in case of any aircraft emergency are upon them which requires strict vigilance and quick decision making.

Introduction

A commercial aircraft pilot has to control the flight as well as he is the commander-in-chief beginning from takeoff to landing. Their responsibility is to carry passengers along with the cargo to destinations to different places. They are not to be confused with the Indian Air Force pilots whose selection process is through NDA and other defense exams. It's one of the highest paying careers which requires heavy investment, continuous training, and regular skill upgradation.

Work Roles

  •  They have to handle commercial flights across the globe.

  • One of the important tasks is to monitor aircraft systems as well as coordinate with on-ground authorities of the airport.

  • Knowledge of maps, technology, and planes is a must for them.

  • They also send and receive information to the crew flying in an airplane and staff on the ground.
